David Wachsman, President of Hawkeye Digital, discusses the company’s rebrand, dual-platform strategy and focus on tokenization, stablecoins, blockchain infrastructure and AI-driven financial services.

Hawkeye Systems has rebranded as Hawkeye Digital Inc. to reflect its evolution into a private equity and merchant banking platform focused on digital assets, advanced technology and financial services. In this conversation with FinTech Business Asia, David Wachsman, President of Hawkeye Digital, discusses the company’s rebrand, its dual-platform strategy, and its focus on opportunities across tokenization, stablecoins, blockchain infrastructure and AI, while outlining its plans to expand merchant banking capabilities, strengthen capital markets relationships and invest in businesses at the intersection of digital assets and traditional financial services.

Q. What were the primary factors behind the decision to rebrand Hawkeye Systems as Hawkeye Digital Inc., and what does the new identity represent about the company’s evolution?

A. Hawkeye has evolved into a private equity and merchant banking platform built around digital assets and advanced technology, and the former name didn’t capture that. Hawkeye Digital signals a company built to identify and back the businesses shaping the next era of the digital world, backed by an operating model with two complementary arms. A private equity business pursues controlling stakes in category-defining growth companies, while a merchant banking practice advises growth-stage and public companies on capital formation, public market readiness, exchange listings and strategic transactions. The new name and logo, paired with the relocation to Miami Beach, mark a real operational shift for the company. It's meant to give investors, partners and portfolio companies a clearer, more accurate picture of what Hawkeye does today, and where it's headed, as the company builds out the team around it.

Q. How does the rebrand reflect Hawkeye Digital’s current technology strategy and its ambitions within the rapidly expanding digital economy?

A. Hawkeye Digital's strategy centers on the infrastructure layer of the digital economy. The rebrand positions the company to invest in and advise businesses working on tokenization, wallets, stablecoins and blockchain-based financial infrastructure, areas Hawkeye sees as foundational to how value moves and gets stored going forward. Artificial intelligence sits alongside that focus, underpinning financial services and other high-growth sectors more broadly. That combination of digital assets plus AI is deliberate. Hawkeye Digital's ambition is to be positioned at the intersection of these categories early, through both direct ownership via private equity and advisory relationships through merchant banking. The Miami Beach relocation reinforces that practically, placing the company inside one of the more active hubs for digital asset activity and the talent building around it, as Hawkeye expands its bankers and builds out the platform.

Q. What specific products, platforms, or technology capabilities will be central to Hawkeye Digital’s growth strategy following the rebrand?

A. Hawkeye Digital's growth is structured around two operating platforms. The private equity arm pursues controlling investments in category-defining growth companies, giving Hawkeye direct ownership and operating influence. The merchant banking arm provides advisory services spanning capital formation, public market preparation, exchange listings and strategic transactions for growth-stage and public companies, capabilities the company is actively expanding by hiring merchant bankers. Hawkeye has also brought on ThinkEquity LLC as financial advisor, a firm with a substantial record underwriting and bookrunning crypto-related capital raises, which strengthens Hawkeye's access to capital markets expertise as it scales. Sector-wise, the initial technology focus sits with digital asset infrastructure, tokenization, wallets and stablecoins, alongside AI as a foundational capability for financial services. Hawkeye Digital's edge going forward is expected to come from combining ownership, advisory reach and capital markets relationships across these categories.

Q. As businesses accelerate their adoption of AI, automation and digital technologies, which market opportunities does Hawkeye Digital see as having the greatest potential over the next few years?

A. We see the greatest near-term potential where digital assets and AI intersect with traditional financial services infrastructure. Tokenization, stablecoins and blockchain-based payment and settlement infrastructure stand out as areas where the underlying technology is maturing quickly while institutional adoption is still relatively early, creating room for well-positioned companies to become category leaders. AI is viewed as a similar kind of infrastructure layer, one that's reshaping how financial services and other high-growth sectors operate, from compliance and risk to client-facing tools. Hawkeye Digital's approach is to identify companies building genuine capability in these areas, then back them through either controlling investment or advisory support depending on where they sit in their growth journey. Over the next few years, the company expects the largest opportunities to come from businesses that can bridge digital asset infrastructure with mainstream financial services, since that convergence is where Hawkeye Digital believes durable value will be created.

Q. How does the company plan to differentiate itself from established technology providers and emerging digital companies competing for the same customers and markets?

A. Hawkeye Digital's differentiation starts with its dual structure. Most firms in this space are either investors or advisors. Hawkeye runs both a private equity platform and a merchant banking practice, meaning it can take a controlling ownership position in a company or advise it through capital formation and public market preparation, depending on what that business actually needs. That flexibility is reinforced by the team around it. David Wachsman brings deep relationships, experience and knowledge across the crypto and digital finance community, and the addition of ThinkEquity LLC as financial advisor adds a Wall Street firm with a strong track record in crypto capital markets, including its work with Bitmine Immersion Technologies. Hawkeye Digital is positioning itself around the combination of relationships, capital markets experience and operating involvement, a mix that's harder for a pure-play investor or a pure-play advisory shop to replicate on its own.

Q. Looking ahead, what are Hawkeye Digital’s key growth priorities, including potential partnerships, acquisitions, new product development or expansion into additional markets?

In the near term, the priority is building out the merchant banking team, since Hawkeye Digital is actively hiring bankers to expand its advisory and capital markets capabilities from its new Miami Beach base. Deepening the ThinkEquity relationship is also a focus, given the capital markets access and crypto sector track record that partnership brings. On the investment side, Hawkeye Digital will continue sourcing controlling stakes in category-defining companies within digital assets and, increasingly, AI, with an eye toward businesses that can anchor the platform's private equity portfolio for the long term. While the initial focus remains digital assets, tokenization, wallets, stablecoins and blockchain-based financial infrastructure, Hawkeye Digital has said itsambitions extend further, into additional high-growth sectors within financial services and advanced technology more broadly. Expansion into those adjacent markets is expected to follow as the current platform matures, with the company building its foundation in Miami Beach first before broadening its footprint.
